3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Suns

Students first stop was Mexico! They learned about Mexican paper sculpture, cartoneria. They also learned the difference between things that are 2D and 3D. We also had our very first art critique about a Mexican paper sculpture and students learned that we 1) Describe what we see, 2) Analyze how it was made, 3) Interpret why the art was made, 4) Judge whether we like it or not and why. We made Mexican suns because Mexico is so hot. First, they made a ball out of newspaper and taped it together. Next, they paper mached around the outside of the balls. We had alot of fun getting so messy. Finally, we painted our suns and then added the sun rays around the outside.
